New legislation brings changes to telemedicine for AmeriHealth New Jersey members

AmeriHealth New Jersey announces expanded coverage of telemedicine services, effective immediately and lasting for the duration of New Jersey’s public health emergency. The change is one of many efforts to encourage social distancing and increase access to care. This expansion of telemedicine complies with new requirements signed into law on March 20, 2020 and Bulletin 20‑07, issued by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance, regarding telemedicine coverage in the state of New Jersey.

The expanded telemedicine services for AmeriHealth New Jersey fully insured members includes:

  • Coverage and access to all health care services through telemedicine — primary care and all specialists. This means members will be able to continue to see their regular doctors, as long as the physicians can see members through a telemedicine platform.
  • No cost sharing on any of these telemedicine services — including non‑COVID‑19 related services.

AmeriHealth New Jersey members who are digitally engaged will receive a communication about this expanded access to care in the upcoming days.
