On April 1, 2017, Independence Blue Cross will complete the transition from DST to Smart Data Solutions for managing paper medical claims scanning and data entry for Commercial and Medicare members. The move was started in December 2016 and was made to better streamline the processing of paper medical claims, while saving on associated costs.
As a part of the transition, certain commercial claims forms have been updated with the new vendor’s address. We ask that if you have saved older versions of these claim forms, to please discard and replace them with the newer, updated versions that have the Eagan, MN P.O. Box address on them. Mail forwarding will be available until May 4, 2017 for forms received at DST, in order to ensure timely processing of claims during the transition period. As a reminder, please see the Service Alert on how to submit claims that require special handling.
Please note that only these commercial claims forms have been impacted and updated with the new vendor address:
Commercial members can access these updated claims forms in the Resource Center of their ibxpress.com account, or they can request claims forms by calling the member service number on the back of their member ID card. They will be notified of this change via portal alert on their ibxpress.com account. Impacted Medicare claims forms are in the process of being updated with the new address and will be made available in the same manner once ready.
Employers and Benefit Administrators can access the most up to date claims forms from the Employer Portal Resource Center. They will be notified of the change via portal alert on their ibxpress.com account. Brokers can access the updated claims forms on the Sales Portal Resource Center. Associates can find these updated claims forms on the Marketplace.
Providers follow a separate process for submitting and preparing medical claims; however, they were notified over the past few months via Partners in Health, and have been directed to mail their forms to the Eagan, MN location.
Certain group customers have custom microsites specific to their plan benefits. Members and Benefit Administrators for those groups can access updated claims forms on the Forms page of their respective sites.
A larger initiative to review the paper medical claims process, including additional updates to the claims forms, is underway and any updates will be communicated when more information is available.
