Helping members access care during the pandemic: Coverage for antibody testing

As the COVID‑19 pandemic evolves, Independence continues to work with local and national health officials to assess current conditions, health care for our members, and ways to help our clients and partners. In Independence Edge last month, we communicated that we will cover COVID‑19 diagnostic testing approved by the FDA and performed in an approved health care setting. We are also covering COVID‑19 antibody testing in accordance with federal guidelines and our company medical policy.

Both tests are covered with no cost sharing for members, for the duration of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Like the COVID‑19 diagnostic testing, self-funded customers must also cover the COVID‑19 antibody testing at no cost share for their covered employees and their families. We recommend that members consult with their health care provider regarding the need for antibody testing. As we have more confirmed information about the cost per test performed, we will share that information.
