We understand the financial strain COVID‑19 is causing businesses of all sizes. Many employers will be forced to make difficult decisions that will affect health insurance coverage for their employees. We want to ensure that members losing coverage understand their individual coverage options and the financial support that may be available to make staying covered more affordable.

We will be doing a communications campaign via text, email, and direct mail to members who are losing their coverage. The campaign will reinforce the value of staying covered and having access to the doctors members know and trust. We are targeting members who reside in the Philadelphia 5‑county area and will offer individual and family health plan options, plus Medicare health plan options if the member is age 65 or older.

For any employees who may live outside of the Philadelphia 5‑county area, you can direct them to the Blue Cross Blue Shield website to view individual and family health plan options.

Help evaluating health plan options

In the communication, members will be provided a toll‑free number to contact our licensed agents for assistance and are encouraged to visit ibx4you.com/staycovered. Independence is in a unique position as the only major group carrier in southeastern Pennsylvania offering individual and family plans on and off the federal exchange. We encourage members who lost coverage and may need assistance to explore these options, including federal tax credits to help pay for coverage, so they can make informed decisions on coverage that is affordable and best suits their needs.
