Announcing the 2021 large group product portfolio

We are pleased to share our 2021 large group (51+) medical and prescription drug product portfolio for commercial fully insured and self‑funded customers.

Our 2021 portfolio features a comprehensive suite of plans, a new plan option, and enhancements to help employers manage costs while maintaining access to high‑quality, affordable care for their members.

What’s new for 2021

Virtual care enhancements

This year has shown that having virtual care coverage is vital to our members. We have always covered telemedicine, with many PCPs and specialists in our network offering it as an option for their patients. Effective January 1, 2021 for new business and upon renewal for existing customers, we have expanded our MDLIVE virtual care options to show our continued commitment to this safe and convenient way to receive care. Independence has also made the following virtual care services available for $0 cost‑share:

  • Telemedicine services through MDLIVE and Penn Medicine OnDemand
  • Telebehavioral health services through Magellan and MDLIVE
  • Teledermatology services through MDLIVE

MDLIVE is included in all standard portfolio plans and is available as a buy‑up option for self‑funded customers. Additional information about Penn Medicine OnDemand eligibility can be found in this FAQ.

New plan option and vision enhancements

In order to address market needs and broker feedback, we’ve added an HSA high deductible plan to the 51 – 99 portfolio for 2021. Previously available only to 100+ customers, this popular, new 51 – 99 plan will have 100 percent coverage after a $2,500 single deductible.

In addition, members with buy‑up vision coverage can use their plan's frame or contact lens allowance at in‑network online retailers Glasses.com and 1800Contacts.com. This enhancement is currently in effect.

Well‑being program incentives and discounts

We’ve added rewards to our Achieve Well‑being program to help customers and their employees get and stay healthy. Employees can earn $150 for completing the following activities in 2021:

  • Annual check‑up with PCP
  • Flu shot
  • Getting digitally engaged (registering for the member portal and MDLIVE.com, setting up a Well‑being profile, and opting into digital messaging at ibx.com)

The Achieve Well‑being program enhancements are included for all fully insured customers enrolled in 2021 standard portfolio plans. The coverage takes effect beginning January 1 for new business and on renewal for existing customers.

Effective January 1, 2021, regardless of renewal date, all large group plan members 18 years and older can take advantage of the GlobalFit Anywhere app which connects members to studios, gyms, classes and trainers at discounted rates. They can also access live virtual classes through the app.

New business and renewals beginning with January 1, 2021 effective dates

New business

New business customers (51 – 99 and 100+) must select options from the 2021 large group portfolio.

Renewals

  • 51 – 99 customers who are in a 2020 standard large group portfolio plan will be pointed to the 2021 version of their current plan. Any 51 – 99 customers in a pre‑2020 standard plan will need to select all new plans from the 2021 options if making medical or prescription drug changes.
  • 100+ customers who are in a 2020 standard large group portfolio plan will be pointed to the 2021 version of their current plan. If a 100+ customer makes a change to their existing standard plan, they need to select a new standard plan from the 2021 portfolio and customize accordingly. If a customer has custom benefits, they can retain the custom benefits or select a standard plan from the 2021 portfolio.

Below is a summary of important dates to remember for 2021 large group (51+) portfolio enhancements and new plan option.

Effective January 1 for new business and upon renewal into a new 2021 portfolio plan:

  • MDLIVE virtual care enhancements and $0 cost‑share for MDLIVE, Magellan and Penn Medicine OnDemand virtual care services
  • Achieve Well‑being rewards enhancements
  • HSA high‑deductible health plan addition to the 51 – 99 portfolio

Effective January 1, 2021, regardless of renewal date:

  • GlobalFit Anywhere app available to members 18 years and up

The 2021 Large Group Benefits brochure includes portfolio highlights, plan overviews, and benefits summaries to help you educate your customers. It is also available on the Sales Portal Resource Center. Complete benefit highlights will be available on Forms Online as of August 1, 2020.
