A note regarding updates to ID cards

In response to the transparency mandates under the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) and the Transparency in Coverage Rule (TCR), please find a summary of updates to member ID cards below.

Health plans must include the following in clear writing on any physical or electronic identification cards that are issued to members or enrollees in a health plan or coverage:

  • Any in‑network and out-of-network deductibles applicable to the health plan
  • Any maximum out-of-pocket limits applicable to the health plan
  • A telephone number and internet website address where an individual can seek assistance

Below, we outline the updates to ID cards that will begin on January 1, 2022 for members of both AmeriHealth Administrators and AmeriHealth New Jersey.

AmeriHealth New Jersey

  • Members in individual and family plans will receive new ID cards starting in January.
  • Members in group plans will receive their new ID card once their group renews or upon request by the member prior to their renewal date (ex: member loses their ID card and requests a new one).

ID card updates:

  • Single deductible and family deductible amounts will each be listed on their own line.
  • Single and family out-of-pocket amounts will be listed on their own line. If a group has total max out-of-pocket limits, those amounts will be displayed rather than the single and family out-of-pocket amounts.
  • The out-of-network deductible and out-of-network, out-of-pocket maximum amounts will be listed for plans with true out-of-network benefits.
  • Rx deductible and out-of-pocket maximum amounts will be added to ID cards for plans where the Rx deductible is not combined with medical.
  • Hospital benefit (inpatient hospitalization) information will be removed from HMO cards due to space limitations.
  • Preventive $0 will be removed to allow room for Rx individual/family deductibles and Rx individual/family out-of-pocket amounts (if applicable).
  • If the preventive amount is greater than $0, it will remain on the ID card.

AmeriHealth Administrators

  • ID cards will be reissued for those groups that request them.
  • All members will have access to their new cards electronically on the member portal.

ID card updates:

  • In‑network and out-of-network deductibles for family and individuals will appear on the bottom‑right corner of the ID card.
  • Out-of-pocket maximums for family and individuals will appear on the bottom‑right corner of the ID card.
