Case management for behavioral health update

We are taking a comprehensive approach to our members' health and emotional well‑being. In support of this strategy, effective June 1, 2022, behavioral health case management services will move from Magellan to AmeriHealth. This change gives us the opportunity to address behavioral and physical health challenges in a more integrated way and enhance overall care coordination efforts.

Utilization management activities will continue to be performed by Magellan. The services and support our members have received from Magellan Case Management will now be provided by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Social Worker at AmeriHealth.

Our Case Managers will continue to offer support to members with behavioral health‑related challenges. Using risk stratification, we can identify which members are most in need of behavioral health services and reach out to them to offer support at critical points before, during, and after treatment. This stratification helps Case Managers target members at various levels of risks, schedule follow‑ups, and keep them aligned with their care plans.

We will be sending a letter to impacted members outlining these changes in early May. Case managers will also proactively contact members via telephone to introduce themselves and answer any questions the members may have. We are also notifying impacted members’ physicians and behavioral health providers of this change.

Our members' health is our top priority. By bringing behavioral health case management in‑house, we are enhancing our care coordination between physical and behavioral health services.
