To enhance and simplify the member experience, the FutureScripts name is being retired. This change is planned to go into effect on January 1, 2023.

Pharmacy benefits offered by Independence and AmeriHealth companies will still be administered by OptumRx, but the product will be marketed under the carrier's name. Members will continue to have access to the same pharmacy benefits, programs, and services they do today, but without the FutureScripts brand associated.

Background

FutureScripts was the name of the pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) company that was stood up by Independence Blue Cross (Independence). As the PBM industry consolidated, the FutureScripts business was sold by Independence and ultimately purchased by OptumRx. Currently, pharmacy benefits are marketed under the FutureScripts brand. There are some programs that are provided by Optum Pharmacy (Optum Specialty, Optum Home Delivery) that use the Optum name in materials — that will continue.

Over the coming months, you will begin to see the FutureScripts name removed from materials and communications as they are updated. The rebranding is planned to go into full effect on January 1, 2023.
