Promoting health equity
Achieving equity requires more than just taking a few steps; it’s an ongoing journey.
AmeriHealth Administrators is focused on promoting equity by investing in equitable, whole‑person health and working to create health, social, and economic justice for AmeriHealth Administrators members, associates, and our community. It has long been our promise, and it continues to be part of our commitment to being a leader and catalyst for change.
As part of our Promote Equity Promise, we strive to make a difference in three areas:
-
In health, we are a convener
-
In work, we are a model
-
In community, we are an amplifier
In Health
We are a champion for health equity and positive social change. That means making sure everyone has a fair opportunity to be as healthy as possible, regardless of who they are or where they live.
-
AmeriHealth Administrators is a convener of health systems and institutions working to address health inequities that disproportionately affect the diverse communities we serve.
-
Through collaboration and bold investments, we scale programs and leverage data that drive member well‑being through effective, equitable care delivery and innovation. We address barriers to equitable care for all communities.
We strive to close systemic gaps in health equity by:
-
Collaborating with providers to address unconscious bias and ensuring all members have access to the health services they need to improve health outcomes
-
Giving members and the community more opportunities to share feedback and participate in advisory committees
-
Being innovative in addressing gaps in equitable and accessible health care
-
Creating solutions to dismantle structural racism and working toward health justice for all
AmeriHealth Administrators has also earned Health Equity Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The three‑year Accreditation recognizes and validates AmeriHealth Administrators’ commitment to address the root causes of health inequity.

In Work
AmeriHealth Administrators is a major employer and economic engine for our region. We serve as a model for investing in what matters: cultivating a workforce that reflects the world around us and fostering an equitable and inclusive corporate culture.
We effect change from within by being a safe space for associates.
- Today, our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) provide opportunities for professional development, networking, community outreach, and wellness support and help us understand where we still have work to do in driving and achieving equity. Our ARGs also help inform our products, benefits, and workforce initiatives.
-
We offer an “Inclusive Leadership” training series focused on several key learning areas, including unconscious bias, allyship, culture of inclusion, and emotional intelligence.
-
Having Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a corporate value and part of our culture signals to employees that we are relying on them to share their valuable experience.
In Community
With a focus on economic equity, we continue increasing our investments and support of diverse businesses and those organizations supporting underserved communities.
Our associate volunteer group was established more than 20 years ago. In 2021, we launched our associate giving campaign:
-
In 2022, our charitable giving campaign raised more than $1.1 million for regional nonprofit organizations through associate donations and a company matching gifts program.
-
In 2022, more than 1,000 volunteers donated more than 3,365 hours of time, benefitting 48 nonprofit organizations in our region.
Our work helps to fuel the region’s economy. By supporting diverse organizations, we help to bolster and serve those same diverse communities.
-
In 2022, we spent $280 million with diverse suppliers, up 32 percent from 2021.
-
Cash flow and financing concerns can put diverse businesses at a disadvantage. That’s why we provide flexible payment terms for diverse suppliers.
-
The most recent economic impact study of the Supplier Diversity Program found that in 2018, the company’s hiring of diverse suppliers contributed $375 million to the national economy, up more than 50 percent from 2014.
We created the Health Equity Advocacy Council (HEAC) to give members a chance to meet with our Health Equity department for honest discussions about health equity and disparities. The Council ensures that our strategy meets the needs of the member population by providing direct feedback on our planned interventions and progress toward goals. Together we strive to hold ourselves accountable for creating lasting change in our communities.

Our health plans offer benefits for transgender services to ensure members’ physical and mental health needs are met when making important decisions about their care, such as gender confirmation and transition. Share this flyer with your employees so they can learn more about these services.
