This is a stand-alone, fully insured product designed specifically for self-funded groups. This policy works in conjunction with any self-funded plan, meaning you do not have to have medical stop-loss coverage with Tokio Marine HCC to purchase the organ transplant product. It is a first dollar benefit with no deductible or out of pocket expense for the employee when covered transplant services are provided through a participating transplant provider.

Having the organ transplant carve-out policy can help to manage the renewal pricing when a known risk exists on a potential transplant candidate because it can potentially mitigate or eliminate a laser or rate increase due to the known risk. Many small employers see the benefit in paying a small premium annually versus potentially picking up the full cost of a transplant.
