Lifesaving Organ & Tissue Transplant Coverage

Have you considered adding Tokio Marine HCC – Stop Loss Group’s (TMHCC's) Organ and Tissue Transplant coverage to supplement your clients’ self-insured health plans? TMHCC enables plans to shift covered transplant services to a fully insured arrangement, providing a superior cost saving solution to transplants that can also be lifesaving. To demonstrate, consider this policyholder’s transplant success story: |
|
A 63-year-old employee had been evaluated and placed on the liver transplant list in Texas. In his area, the average wait time was close to six years, and this was consistent amongst a number of facilities in Texas. TMHCC’s Transplant Nurse Advisor (TNA) noticed that while the patient was in Texas, the policyholder was in Indiana, and found a facility with a much shorter wait time. |

The TNA consulted with the patient and he became convinced that traveling to Indiana was in his best interest. He was ultimately evaluated and listed in Indiana while keeping his listing in Texas. The travel, meals, and lodging (TML) benefit in the organ transplant policy allowed him to come to Indianapolis prior to his transplant, where he remained for several months post-transplant. The TNA worked closely with the patient regarding the flight, rental car and housing.
The patient received his new liver in exactly 3 months from his evaluation date, as opposed to the six year wait he was likely to encounter in Texas. He eventually returned home and resumed working, while claiming that we “saved his life.” We likely did as it was highly unlikely that he would have lived another six years without a transplant.
We all know how costly transplant surgeries are, but the with the added TML benefit in TMHCC’s policy along with the dedicated work of our staff, this patient’s life was saved. These are just a couple of the many benefits that are provided with TMHCC’s Organ Transplant Coverage.
